Planning a trip to Bali and dreaming of a relaxing, affordable spa in Ubud? You’re in the right place.
When I first moved to Ubud, I was looking for something simple but meaningful — a place where I could take care of myself, and tune into Bali’s relaxed energy. After exploring a few options, I decided to follow my intuition and go back to the very first place I had noticed: Ubud Sari Health Resort.
I visited for a massage and a facial. While it doesn’t offer the polished luxury of high-end spas, it gave me a quiet space to reconnect with myself, surrounded by nature and the kindest people, where everything invites you to slow down. And yes, the treatments were high quality and surprisingly affordable.
In this post, I’m sharing my experience at Ubud Sari Health Resort, from the beautiful natural setting to the treatments themselves to the gentle atmosphere of the place — so you can see if it’s the right spot for your moment of self-care in Ubud.

About Sari Health Resort
Ubud Sari Health Resort is a retreat center nestled in nature right in the heart of Ubud, on Jalan Kajeng, not far from one of the nicest rice field walks in town. Open since 1996, this wellness center offers accommodations, detox retreats, spa treatments, meditation, and yoga classes, all designed to support your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Everything here is designed with simplicity and harmony in mind, following the Balinese principle of Tri Hita Karana, a philosophy that emphasizes the three key relationships essential for achieving happiness and well-being: harmony between humans and God, humans and other humans, and humans and nature.

And that’s exactly the energy you feel the moment you step in, from the smiles of the welcoming staff to the open-air spaces of the resort. Even though it’s located at the end of a busy market street, as soon as you enter Ubud Sari, the energy shifts, and it becomes incredibly peaceful.
You might hear the soft chatter of staff or a few other guests, but mostly, it’s just the calming sound of flowing water from the ponds and fountains scattered throughout the grounds.
You can tell that every guest is fully immersed in their well-being. The space naturally invites you to be present and release whatever no longer serves you. Everyone is deeply relaxed (as is often the case in Bali), and that energy is contagious.

What makes this place truly unique, in my opinion, is that it’s not a spa enclosed within four walls, where you barely see daylight. There’s no heavy architecture or overdesigned spaces; instead, it leaves room for nature to breathe.
The spa areas are spread across various pavilions, connected by small bridges and stone pathways that span ponds and tropical gardens.
It’s very simple — don’t expect fancy décor or luxurious furniture — but that’s also its charm. It’s a place that strips away the unnecessary and focuses on what matters: presence, peace, and nature.
Spa & Beauty Treatments at Ubud Sari
As a slow, mid-budget traveler, I’m always looking for good value-for-money experiences. I wanted to treat myself without emptying my wallet.
It’s true that in Bali you’ll find spas literally on every street — but the reality is, you never really know how good they are. That’s why I often prefer to spend a little more, as long as I know I’ll walk away happy with the experience.
And that was precisely the case here. I didn’t want to stop at a random spa after my morning walk — I wanted it to be intentional. I wanted to visit a dedicated space for a massage and facial that felt trustworthy.
1. Ubud Sari Signature Massage
I booked the Ubud Sari Signature Massage — a 60-minute full-body treatment for IDR 250K ($15), plus taxes and service fees (around $18 total). While you can find cheaper massages in Bali (some as low as 100–160K), this one felt worth the slightly higher price.
One thing I loved is that every spa treatment includes access to their steam room and cold jacuzzi — and trust me, it’s the kind of contrast that leaves you feeling …refreshed.
From the entrance, you’re guided to the spa area, given disposable underwear and a sarong, and then led to a simple bamboo-and-wood pavilion where the massage takes place. It’s quiet, enclosed, and intimate. As I lay down, rain started pouring outside, and honestly, I couldn’t have imagined a better setting to unwind.

My therapist was a strong, experienced woman, the kind you can instantly tell knows what she’s doing. She applied the perfect mix of pressure and long, deep strokes, working through tension from head to toe: hands, face, chest, feet — everything included.
It was one of those rare moments when you feel completely present in your body, every knot and worry melting away with the sound of rain. A reminder that simplicity often beats luxury, especially when it’s done with presence and intention.
I highly recommend this massage if you’re looking for something essential, deeply relaxing, and tension-relieving — a treatment that doesn’t break the bank but delivers everything you’d expect from a proper Balinese massage.

2. Facial at Sari Health Resort
I didn’t know what to expect — this was my first facial, and I was in Bali, so there wasn’t much information on the website about the type of treatment offered. I hadn’t booked anything specific, so I stayed open to being surprised…
The facial costs IDR 450K (around $28), but with taxes and service fees, it came to about IDR 545K (roughly $33). After experiencing it and researching the products they used, I can honestly say it was worth it.

As a skincare lover, I was super curious about the products — they turned out to be from SOTHYS Paris, a high-end French brand I hadn’t heard of before. It’s a line used only in professional beauty spas and institutes. The quality was impressive: I have sensitive skin that often reacts to new products, but these were extremely gentle. No irritation at all.
The facial lasted about an hour and included all the key steps: cleansing, toning, exfoliating, pore cleansing, a hydrating mask, face massage, serum, and moisturizer.
The therapist didn’t explain what she was doing, so I pieced it together myself, but I still felt fully taken care of. Her touch was extremely soft and attentive, and every step felt intentional.

While the hydrating mask was on, she gave me the most relaxing arms, ankles, and foot massage. You know that feeling when your whole body just sinks into the mattress? That was exactly it.
The only small downside is that the facial takes place in a shared room, so it’s not as private or quiet as the massage treatment — someone came in and spoke briefly, but it didn’t ruin the mood.
The space itself is warm and cozy, even if it doesn’t have the typical spa ambiance. But honestly, the quality of the treatment more than made up for that. Afterwards, my skin was glowing, super hydrated, and I felt amazing, ready to float out and grab lunch.

What I Loved (and What Could Be Better)
As with any place, there were many things I loved — and a couple that are worth knowing in advance.
What I loved
1. Good Value for Money
Considering the quality of the treatments I received and the price I paid, I can genuinely say I was impressed — and I would go back in a heartbeat.
From the kindness of the staff to the care and presence they put into every step of the treatments, everything felt thoughtful.
The massage left me deeply relaxed, and the quality of the products used during the facial honestly surprised me — I wasn’t expecting such high-end skincare in such a simple space.
2. The Natural Setting
It’s a bit of a pity that this isn’t the kind of place where you can linger for hours, but the natural setting alone is enough to make you exhale and whisper “aaah” the moment you step inside. You already feel more relaxed than you were just seconds before.
The atmosphere is so peaceful and grounding that it made me consider booking a detox retreat in the future, to spend more time surrounded by the beauty of the space.
Everything, from the lush tropical garden to the lotus ponds and small bridges scattered across the grounds, is designed to make you feel held by nature. And honestly, you do. There’s a quiet kind of magic in the way this place wraps around you — you feel embraced by the surroundings and totally at peace.

4. Attention to Guests
The staff at Ubud Sari is so lovely — from the warm welcome at reception to the calm presence of the spa therapists. From the moment you step in, you feel looked after, like you’re in good hands.
Both therapists who treated me — for the massage and the facial — had a touch that was light yet confident, the kind that helps your body start to unwind the moment you lie down.
Things to Keep in Mind
1. Not the Kind of Place You Linger For Hours
While you’re welcome to use the steamer and cold jacuzzi before or after your treatment, this isn’t the kind of spa where you’d lounge for hours in a relaxation room. It’s more of a simple, wellness-focused space — a health resort that offers spa treatments rather than a full-on day spa.
If you’re not staying as a resort guest, you’ll likely enjoy your massage, spend some time between the steamer and jacuzzi, and then head back into your day.
2. Very Basic Facilities
This is something I touched on earlier, but it’s worth keeping in mind: Ubud Sari Health Resort isn’t the kind of place that focuses on luxury or aesthetics made for Instagram. You won’t find designer steam rooms or spacious changing areas with mood lighting — and that’s not the point here.
Everything is kept simple, practical, intentionally low-key, and in harmony with surrounding nature, which is likely what allows them to offer such high-quality treatments at an accessible price.
4. No Explanation Regarding the Facial
One thing I would have appreciated more was clarity around the steps of the facial, both on the website and during the treatment itself. It would have been helpful to know what kind of facial I was getting and what to expect from the process.
On one hand, I understand that silence during the treatment helps preserve the peaceful atmosphere. However, on the other hand, someone with specific skin concerns might feel uneasy about not knowing what’s being used on their face.
I was extremely curious and ended up asking to see the products afterward, simply because I’m obsessed with skincare. From there, I pieced together the process myself based on what was applied and when. That said, the products were top quality, so I didn’t feel the need to worry too much.
Who I’d Recommend It To
I’d definitely recommend Ubud Sari Health Resort if you’re looking for an affordable spa in Ubud providing high-quality treatments, without the need to spend an entire day at the spa.
It’s a great choice if you want something simple and effective, especially if you’re not into the ultra-luxurious, Instagram-perfect kind of places that usually come with a much higher price tag.
If you happen to have a free afternoon (maybe on a rainy day or during a slower moment in your trip), you can also book one of their longer spa packages — 3, 4, or even 6 hours — filled with a mix of beauty and wellness treatments.
It’s especially ideal for those who appreciate efficient, no-frills self-care that still feels meaningful and well worth it.
FAQ Section
1. Where to Book?
You can book directly through their website — just click on the small WhatsApp icon in the bottom right corner. Send them a message with the treatment you’d like and your preferred date and time, and they’ll reply with their availability.
2. What Should I Bring?
Depending on the treatment you book and whether you’d like to spend some time in the jacuzzi or steamer, I’d recommend bringing a swimsuit (even though they’re happy to let you bathe with the provided sarong) and a towel to dry off afterwards. You may also want to pack flip-flops and any shower essentials you typically use, especially if you plan to rinse off after your treatment.
3. Is There a Restaurant On Site?
It’s not the restaurant dedicated to retreat guests or those staying at the hotel, but there’s a nice little restaurant right at the entrance of the resort that’s open to everyone. It’s affordable and a perfect spot to stop for lunch, especially if, like in my case, it starts pouring rain right after your treatment and you’re hungry.
4. Does The Resort Offer Accommodation?
Yes — Ubud Sari Health Resort offers private bungalows surrounded by nature, some with pool views and others overlooking the tropical garden.
As a guest, you also get to try their healthy, organic meals from their on-site restaurant, including a vegetarian breakfast to start your day.
The outdoor pool between the trees and rice terraces, is the highlight of the site. I only got a quick look at the room area, but it felt like the kind of place that would be perfect for a wellness-focused, Bali-style stay — simple, peaceful, and fully immersed in nature.
5. Where is Ubud Sari Located?
Ubud Sari is located at the very end of Jalan Kajeng, just before the start of the Juwuk Manis Walk. The exact address is Jalan Kajeng No. 35, Ubud.
It’s right at the end of a narrow and busy market street, which makes for a stroll before or after your treatments, browsing local souvenir stalls and cafes.
There you go… I hope this post helped you get a better feel for Ubud Sari and why it might be precisely what you’re looking for if you’re after an affordable spa in Ubud.
I always value experience and professionalism over anything all-fluff — and this is the kind of place where you can trust that, whatever treatment you choose, it’s going to deliver.
