Yoga Barn Day Retreat in Ubud: A Reset You Didn’t Know You Needed

Last Updated on January 21, 2026

Whether you’re a yogi, a wellness lover, or simply a curious traveler, a stop at Yoga Barn is a must if you’re in Ubud, at least in my opinion. Whether it’s for a single class, a visit, or a full yoga retreat.

Yoga Barn is one of the most popular and visited yoga and holistic centers in Bali, and for a good reason.

I don’t even know where to start.

The center feels like pure paradise, surrounded by nature, with spacious shalas that seem almost hidden in the jungle.

There’s something about the atmosphere that makes it feel suspended in time and space, while the variety of practices, people you meet, and events happening around the center make it one of the most stimulating places in Ubud.

That’s why I didn’t hesitate for a second when booking my one-day wellness retreat.

In this article, I’ll take you through what a Yoga Barn day retreat is really like: what’s included, a bit about the classes, how much it costs, and whether it’s truly worth booking, especially if, like me, you’re traveling through Bali and feel the need for a pause.

This isn’t a sponsored post. I’m sharing this experience because I genuinely loved it, and because this is exactly the kind of information I would have looked for myself while traveling in Bali.

What is the Yoga Barn Day Retreat?

A day retreat at Yoga Barn, also known as the Blissful Day Retreat, is the perfect way to experience the essence of Yoga Barn in one day.

This is what’s included:

  • 3 standard classes (you can’t choose classes that are part of special events or require an additional payment)
  • Lunch at the Garden Kafé and a fresh juice from the juice bar
  • A 60-minute relaxing massage

The day retreat usually lasts the entire day, depending on which classes you book.

I’d really suggest not rushing from class to class just to finish early. This is the kind of experience where taking breaks matters: wandering around the center, sitting somewhere quiet with a journal or a book, and letting everything sink in is part of it all.

Unlike the day retreat at Solana Bali, the one at Yoga Barn works well if you like having some structure throughout the day, while still enjoying plenty of time for yourself.

It’s a nice balance if you’re looking to combine movement with mindfulness and relaxation. The variety of classes makes it ideal, even if you’re a yoga beginner or if you don’t want to practice yoga at all.

Why Choose The Yoga Barn Day Retreat

Movement, in all its forms, and the connection between body, mind, and the surrounding nature are an essential part of being in Bali. Even if you’re only passing by, taking a day to slow down and tune into this side of the island often becomes one of those experiences that stays with you.

If you’re the kind of traveler who struggles with slowing down, or if FOMO tends to creep in, this is your reminder that pausing is part of experiencing Bali. And often, it feels like it’s the island itself asking you to stop, sometimes quite literally, with a sudden rush of tropical rain.

Stepping away, even just for a day, from waterfalls, temples, and beaches to move, breathe, sit with yourself, and reflect can transform the rest of your trip. It may give you more energy, clarity, and presence.

And then there’s the opportunity to try something completely new.

In a single day at Yoga Barn, you can choose from plenty of classes: somatic yin yoga, creative meditations, dynamic vinyasa flows, sound bath journeys, and so much more. It’s the perfect space to be curious, open, and discover practices you may not find anywhere else.

Yoga Barn: The Most Renowned Yoga and Holistic Wellness Center in Bali

The first time I heard about Yoga Barn, it was actually on my very first day in Ubud.

I was at Sayuri Healing Food, one of my favorite healthy restaurants in town, and just a short walk from Yoga Barn, when I met a girl living in Uluwatu who was attending a three-day retreat. She was blown away by the size of the center and by the ecstatic dance session she had just experienced.

The main area of Yoga Barn, with the reception, restaurant, and a few quiet corners to rest and slow down.

That description stayed with me, and it made complete sense the first time I walked down the stairs leading to the main reception.

In the first sheltered pavilion, just before the entrance, a small circle was taking place. Around ten people were sharing thoughts and reflections on a topic I couldn’t quite hear. Despite the open space, the silence allowed them to speak softly, without ever needing to raise their voices.

And that’s what struck me the most. Despite how big the place actually is, with dozens of people gathered at the restaurant in the heart of the center and several shalas hosting fully booked classes throughout the day, you can still feel a deep sense of silence and peace all around.

How to Choose Your Day Retreat Classes

At Yoga Barn, classes run from 7:15 am until 7:15 pm, which already says a lot about how many options you actually have in a single day. Before booking, I suggest you check their schedule to make sure you’ll find classes you like on the day of your retreat.

I personally tried to mix different kinds of classes, movement, stillness, and something more restorative. That’s why I ended up choosing Pilates, Vibrational Medicine (which feels more like a meditation class, using sound bowls and guitar), and Yin Yoga.

My intention for the day was very simple: I wanted to feel refreshed and rested. For that reason, I didn’t stack too many movement-based classes. Of course, this really depends on you and on what you feel like you need that day.

All the shalas at Yoga Barn, from the River Dome (my favorite) to the Studio Lotus and Surya, are the kind of spaces where it feels easy to turn inward, where focusing on yourself comes naturally, and where your nervous system starts to relax almost without you noticing.

And then there’s the energy of the teachers. In line with the place itself, they’re calm, patient, and deeply knowledgeable. Whatever class you choose, it’s hard not to leave feeling grateful for the experience.

Blissful Day Retreat at Yoga Barn: How The Day Unfolded

When booking a Yoga Barn day retreat, you’re invited to choose three classes from the daily schedule.

I’d recommend arriving at the center at least 30 minutes before your first class. This gives you enough time to check in at the main reception and receive your welcome pack, a small Yoga Barn tote with your class cards, a day pass, and a couple of little gifts, which honestly feels like such a thoughtful touch.

At reception, you’ll be told which shala your first class will take place in, and it’s a good idea to take a photo of the daily schedule or the map to keep track of your next classes.

Pilates on The Mat Class

As a Pilates lover and future teacher, I actually chose the day of my retreat based on when the class was scheduled. It wasn’t the first Pilates class I’d taken at Yoga Barn, but this one, led by the lovely Irene, stood out as ideal for beginners and as the perfect restorative practice to start the day.

It was the kind of workout that leaves you feeling energized rather than depleted, which made all the difference with a full day still ahead of me.

Lunch at The Garden Café

The Garden Kafé at Yoga Barn ended up being one of my favorite places to eat in Ubud. I can never say no to a fresh, healthy bowl, and if that’s your vibe too, there’s really so much to choose from on the menu, from salads and soups to Indonesian-inspired dishes.

All the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, and it’s the kind of food that makes you feel good not only physically, but also knowing you’re making a more sustainable choice.

Rainbow Buddha Bowl at Garden Kafe

Everything is plant-based, vegan, or vegetarian, including the bakery side of the menu, which is honestly so dangerous (in the best way).

Personally, I’d recommend the Rainbow Buddha Bowl or the Vegan Veggie Bowl, but then again, I’m a bowl addict, so take that as you wish.

Lunch is included in the Blissful Day Retreat, along with a drink, and you can also add a fresh juice from the juice bar just downstairs.

Abhyanga Massage

The massage was probably the part of the package that made me the most curious. I’d already taken classes at Yoga Barn before, and I’d eaten at the Garden Kafé, so I more or less knew what to expect. But it was my first time having a massage there.

The day retreat includes a 60-minute Abhyanga massage, a full-body Ayurvedic treatment performed with warm oil (and you’re allowed to choose which one). It’s an ancient practice believed to promote overall balance and well-being, while also helping with stress relief and skin health.

The massage takes place in a separate, quiet, enclosed area of the center. There’s a small resting space surrounded by nature, and simple massage rooms where soft instrumental music plays in the background.

The combination of the atmosphere and the treatment itself was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep, which usually happens to me when the touch is perfectly gentle and slow.

Vibrational Medicine Class

Despite being in Bali for over six months, I had never taken part in a sound bath, meditation, or sound healing session. I more or less knew what to expect, but I still wondered whether I’d be able to stay still for that long, over an hour, without my mind drifting elsewhere.

What stayed with me most from the class was the words of the teacher: “Usually, during meditation, you’re asked to focus on your thoughts. In this class, you can wander. You can create and dream, using the power of sound, bowls, and guitar.”

And that’s exactly what happened. The first part of the class focused on breathwork and chanting, while the second was a lying-down meditation accompanied by the soft, meditative sounds of singing bowls and guitar.

When the class ended, I felt refreshed, but not drowsy. My mind had been active in a different way; I had created ideas, thoughts, and even small projects during that hour. It felt less like switching off and more like giving my mind space to move freely.

Yin Yoga Class

One of the things I love most about yin yoga is how you’re finally allowed to let go. Your mind doesn’t have to produce anything, your muscles don’t have to contract, lift, or move, you’re simply asked to be, while you stretch (and sometimes feel the tension slowly releasing in your fascia and muscles).

And yes, sometimes it’s uncomfortable. Not only because of muscular tension, but also because staying in the same position for more than five minutes, sometimes even seven, gives your mind a lot of space.

Yin Yoga Class

It starts to wander, you want to move, to adjust, to change position. And instead, you’re invited to stay still. It’s not easy, but that’s where the mindfulness really comes in.

That day, the Yin Yoga class was accompanied by beautiful instruments, spiritual music, and soft sound healing melodies, which made the whole experience feel even more special.

It was almost 6 pm, the sky was getting darker, and the sound of tropical rain pouring onto the Shala floor felt like a gift during that hour and a half, quiet, grounding, the perfect background sound along with the music.

Is the Yoga Barn Day Retreat Worth It?

Whether you’re looking to experience different movement, mindfulness, or spiritual practices, or you simply want to dedicate a full day to yourself, a Yoga Barn day retreat is the right choice.

In the days leading up to it, I saw it as a way to bring together the things I love the most: movement, but also time for reflection. A moment where being alone doesn’t feel uncomfortable or empty, but actually necessary: to slow down, recharge, and then move forward again.

Small items sold at the Body Therapy Center (I would have bought everything!)

They gifted me a journal in the goodie bag, and I used it throughout the day during the quieter moments, between one class and the next, as a way to reflect and gain clarity. I truly believe that this is how the retreat is meant to be experienced, as a moment entirely for yourself.

After experiencing it, I can say it’s definitely worth it. It’s great value for what you get, in line with, or even better than, most day retreat packages on the island. The classes are all worth trying, depending on what you’re drawn to, and the overall organization is honestly top-notch.

The day unfolded smoothly, without any issues, and the team was incredibly helpful whenever I had a question. They helped me book all my classes in advance, without the need to go around the center figuring everything out on my own.

It was one of those experiences that makes you think: why didn’t I do this sooner?

Tips & Things to Know Before Booking Your Day Retreat

Here are a few extra details I didn’t mention earlier, but that might be helpful when planning your day retreat at Yoga Barn:

  • After booking, a member of the team will contact you by email. From there, you can book your classes, complete the payment through the provided link, share any additional information, or ask questions if you have any doubts.
  • You’ll be contacted with the time of your massage, and you can change it if needed.
  • I’d recommend booking at least one week in advance. It’s a popular option, and they often need time to organize everything properly.
  • In your welcome bag, along with a few small gifts, you’ll receive your class card (to show at the desk before each class) and your lunch/juice card, which you’ll need to present to get your included meal and juice.
  • Each shala has a small desk where you’ll show your class card before entering, so your attendance can be marked.
  • If it’s your first time at Yoga Barn, you can ask for a short tour of the center. It really helps to understand where everything is.

What to Bring for Your Yoga Barn Day Retreat

Here are a couple of items you should pack for your day retreat:

  • Change of clothes (if you’re planning sweaty movement classes)
  • A small towel
  • Refillable bottle (You’ll find a water fountain at every shala)
  • Snacks (if you feel like you’ll get hungry)

Final Thoughts

I loved my Yoga Barn day retreat!

It felt like one of those days where, despite having scheduled activities, you can truly dedicate your time to yourself, without rushing, without a million things to do, and without a stressful to-do list in the back of your mind.

It’s an experience I genuinely recommend, even if you’re only traveling around Bali. Visitors (and I did the same) often pack their itineraries with endless places to see and things to do. But sometimes we forget that what can really enrich a trip is exactly the opposite: taking a step back, slowing down, and allowing yourself to pause for a while.
