Why Join a Fitness Class in Ubud (Even if You’re Traveling)?

When I tell people I go to the gym in Ubud, they always get curious—probably imagining something very different from the usual gyms back home. The truth is, some of the most beautiful studios I’ve ever been to are here.

Picture yoga shalas surrounded by tropical gardens, where the sound of nature becomes the backdrop to your practice. Or fully equipped gyms that could easily rival (and sometimes beat) the ones in Europe.

Paradise Studio Bali in Ubud

Working out in Ubud is not only about fitness—it’s also a great way to meet both locals and expats who are part of this community. Most instructors are locals, and the energy, the smiles, and the good vibes are guaranteed, no matter which place you choose.

Even if you’re only staying in Ubud for a couple of weeks, I highly recommend joining at least one class. The atmosphere here makes every session feel like an exceptional experience—and if you’re a fitness enthusiast, it’s something you’ll want to bring home with you.

Things to Know About Fitness Classes in Ubud

Here is some helpful information if you’re planning on joining some fitness classes in Ubud.

–> Classpass: ClassPass works on a credit-based system: every class costs a certain number of credits, and you can use your subscription to try out different studios. The good part? They offer a trial that costs only 20,000 IDR (about $1.25), and for two weeks, you get 28 credits to explore different studios once each.

–> Not Every Studio Is on ClassPass: The downside is that not many studios in Ubud are on ClassPass (for example, Yoga Barn isn’t), and the options here are not as wide as in places like Canggu. Still, it’s a great way to test a few places—and if you find a studio you love, you can always stick with it (that’s what I do!).

–>Drop-In Prices: Most studios accept drop-ins, but you’ll usually need to book and pay in advance. Prices range from 165K to 220K IDR per class, which makes fitness one of the few things in Bali that costs almost the same as back home.

My Favorite Fitness Studios in Ubud

1. Yoga Barn

If there’s only one studio you visit in Ubud, make it Yoga Barn—because it’s truly an experience in itself.

First of all, the location. It’s not just a studio, but a lush garden filled with beautiful wooden pavilions surrounded by nature, where classes take place all day long.

The moment you walk in, you’ll notice the tranquility. Despite the constant flow of people heading to class or enjoying a fresh juice at the café, there’s a calm energy that instantly makes you slow down.

And of course, the classes themselves are top quality. Every teacher I’ve met here brings such an intense spiritual energy that you can feel during practice—it’s like a breath of fresh air.

I didn’t take yoga at Yoga Barn (funny, right?), but I did try their Pilates and PiYo (a mix of pilates, yoga, and jazz) and loved them. Their schedule is so varied, you can find all kinds of practice: from meditation to feminine dance sessions.

The only downside is that Yoga Barn isn’t on ClassPass. However, you can buy one of their class cards (3, 5, or 10 sessions). A single drop-in costs 165K IDR, which, compared to other studios in town, is very fair.

Yoga Barn is also the kind of place where you don’t just come for a class—you stay. You can linger on one of the cozy daybeds scattered around the garden to read a book, or grab a healthy meal at Garden Kafe, which also happens to be one of my top picks for vegetarian food in Ubud. More than just a yoga studio, it feels like a community hub.

2. Radiantly Alive

Another yoga center in Ubud that you can find on ClassPass is Radiantly Alive. This is where I joined a beginner class—my very first in-person yoga class (well, technically the second if we count the one I did at Village Above the Clouds in Bedugul).

The studio feels peaceful, partly because people here don’t linger around after class. There’s a small café and restaurant right at the entrance, where you might spot a few people working on their laptops.

My class was held in a beautiful wooden shala surrounded by trees. Even though it’s located near Jalan Raya, the main road, you could hardly hear anything from outside.

The session was led by a Balinese teacher who used Sanskrit terms to guide us through each position. His calm energy set the tone for the whole practice. The next day, my body was so sore and tired—I honestly never imagined a beginner yoga class could have that effect!

I highly recommend Radiantly Alive if you’re looking for a simple, heartfelt yoga practice without distractions.

3. Heart Space Yoga Studio

Heart Space is a small yoga studio tucked right next to one of the best vegan restaurants in town (which is connected to the studio).

When I say small, I mean small—just one room, but it’s such a lovely space that makes you feel grounded as soon as you step inside. The space is beautifully decorated with large, scenic lamps, angel wings hanging on the wall, and a tiny fountain on the floor that fills the room with the soothing sound of flowing water.

Heart Space focuses mainly on Yin Yoga, Sound Healing, and other spiritual practices like Yoga Nidra, breathwork, and nervous system reset. I booked the 7:45 a.m. class, their Morning Flow Yang to Yin—a mix of vinyasa flow and yin yoga.

It turned out to be one of the most peaceful practices I’ve had in Ubud. When I attended, it was a private class, just me and the teacher. I loved the way she guided the session—the calmness in her voice, her gentle explanations—it all made the experience deeply restorative.

If you book a class at Heart Space, you’ll also get 10% off at Flourish by Heart Space, the cozy vegan restaurant attached to the studio. I highly recommend booking the 7:45 a.m. flow and then treating yourself to breakfast right after—with one of their build-your-own bowls.

4. The Collective Club

The Collective Club is the Pilates studio in Ubud. Think of an all-things-pink, highly aesthetic space—right down to the restrooms designed for women (yes, they even stock Nivea deodorant and makeup remover).

The highlight is the spacious and well-equipped reformer Pilates room, set with low lights and an atmosphere that makes you feel instantly focused and fit the moment you step in.

The collective class in Ubud

The studio offers both mat Pilates and reformer classes for all levels. The good news is that it’s available on ClassPass—the catch is that classes are a bit “credit-expensive” at six credits. Still, it’s worth trying at least once to see if this vibe feels like your Pilates home.

Unlike other community-focused studios in Ubud, The Collective Club is more of a come-for-your-class-and-leave kind of place. It’s located on the second floor of a building still under construction, with just two rooms, a small bar (serving coffee and protein shakes), and a minimal seating area.

5. Paradise Studio Bali

Another extremely aesthetic—though much more niche—Pilates studio in the south of Ubud is Paradise Studio Bali. It’s a bit tricky to find, tucked away inside what feels like a private home compound (with a barking dog that might make you wonder, “Am I in the right place?”).

The vibe here is both aesthetic and grounding: rattan chairs, earthy beige and cream tones, and high glass windows opening onto a lush garden outside.

Unlike The Collective Club, the crowd here is minimal, which makes the atmosphere feel calm and exclusive.

The reformer classes are top quality, and because the room only has six reformer platforms, you’re guaranteed a focused, distraction-free practice. They also offer yoga classes if you want to mix it up.

Big plus? They’re on ClassPass—which is great, considering a single drop-in is 300K IDR.

6. Pilates Ubud

Pilates Ubud has just recently opened, but don’t let that fool you—the quality here is outstanding. I had one of my most challenging reformer classes at this studio, the kind where the teacher pays close attention, corrects your form often, and makes sure you get the most out of your practice.

Because there are fewer reformer platforms, the classes feel intimate and focused, with zero distractions. Pilates Ubud is attached to Ubud Fitness (which I’ll review later), and it’s the studio I chose for my weekly practice.

Pilates Ubud

The vibe here is fun and lively, and everyone I’ve met—teachers and students—has been super friendly and easygoing.

It’s also on ClassPass, and unlike some other studios, it’s not as credit-expensive—just 3 or 4 credits depending on the time of day. They offer several different pilates formats, including mobility, strength, core, and legs, so you can choose what your body needs.

If you’re looking for a no-frills Pilates experience, without the fancy aesthetics (or high prices) of other studios, this is the one.

7. Ubud Fitness

After all those Pilates and yoga studios, it’s time for some real work. Ubud Fitness is my weekly dose of strength—especially when it comes to training my booty. Ever since joining my first class, I’ve been coming back week after week.

The energy of the instructors and the great people you meet in every session is contagious, and honestly, that’s what makes me return as much as the workout itself.

The instructors are locals, and the schedule includes CrossFit-style classes, circuit training, and open gym times.

The space is huge and super well-equipped: a main area with weights, bars, and kettlebells; a cardio section right at the entrance; plus an outdoor area with machines and space for free training or stretching.

If you decide to get a membership directly with the gym, you’ll also have access to their recovery area, which includes a jacuzzi and a sauna—perfect after a sweaty workout.

8. Bara Dance Studio

Last but not least, Bara Dance Studio at Karma House in Penestanan is my weekly dose of movement and feminine energy.

Karma House is one of the coolest spots in Ubud: inside their grounds, you’ll find a tattoo studio, a cozy chai bar, and of course, the dance school, which is up on the second floor.

Their weekly schedule is packed and mainly focused on Latin, Afro, and embodied styles of dance, with a mix of mindfulness practices and workshops here and there. They also host full-day masterclasses on weekends.

In terms of dance, they cover everything from salsa and bachata to acro yoga, hand performance, dancehall, and afro. If you’re a dance enthusiast and want to spend some time surrounded by good energy, fantastic music, and friendly people, I can’t recommend Bara Dance Studio enough.

There you go—these are my favorite fitness studios in Ubud to move, dance, and sweat. Of course, there are plenty of other options (especially yoga studios), but these are the ones I tried and can honestly recommend.
